Crafter of the Week – Brenda Lapp

crafter of the week
Congratulations to our Crafter of the Week – Brenda Lapp!
“I live in the same small town in New York State where I was raised and work at the same University I attended for undergrad. I guess that might be boring for some, but I like living close to family and friends.

I have been crafting for as long as I can remember. I used to take scraps from my mother’s sewing projects and make pillows and blankets for my dolls. In addition to working with paper, I have created with fabric by making clothing, quilts and home decor items. I have played with yarn by crocheting an afghan. Even though I rarely wear jewelry, I have made some accessories with oven bake clay. I have also created some needlepoint, embroidery and cross-stitch projects, from a footstool to a pillow with a music box inside. For many birthdays and holidays I received different craft kits. I guess you could say I have tried many different crafts, but papercrafting is what has stuck with me and I keep coming back to it.
I love that paper is a relatively inexpensive and easy medium to work, but that doesn’t keep me from having some paper I am unable to cut into because I love so much. I am betting that there are many crafters with paper like that in their stash. I like that paper can be used to create so many things. I mostly make cards, but I also create some scrapbook pages (my first scrapbook was created while I was in college in the late 1980s), 3D objects, banners, home decor items and more. I have been practicing using watercolor paints and alcohol markers in my papercrafting (not on the same projects though). For me I find that both require practice, practice, practice and patience.

I am happy that Create and Craft started broadcasting in the USA. I watched the first show in December 2014 and have been a fan ever since. I have traveled up to four hours to take a class and C&C is like taking a class right in my living room. I often learn new tips, techniques or get ideas for a different way to use a product from the demonstrators. I also love that C&C brings us items that otherwise would be difficult and expensive to find in the states. Thanks for coming to the USA!
