Tattered Lace ‘Dare to Dream’ Card by Nancy Watt

This summer, Tattered Lace launched four fabulous collections on Create and Craft that were a huge success. The first was Christmas Glow featuring Flectere dies, then there was the very elegant Deco Christmas, the stunning Wonderful in White, and Fantasy Christmas. All amazing and all very different. I’m delighted to share a project from the Tattered Lace Magazine Issue 45 using the very beautiful and very impressive Fantasy Christmas dies. — Nancy Watt.

Making cards, gifts, decorations and home décor items for Christmas during June, July and August doesn’t seem strange to me at all. I started my crafting story making gifts and decorations for Christmas. I painted tea light holders, sprayed pine cones, made garlands and wreaths and painted glass baubles during the summer, so I had plenty of ‘stock’ to keep me going for the Christmas Craft Fairs – and I loved it!

What I love about the Fantasy Christmas collection is that these dies are not just for Christmas – they’ll work all year around. Perfect for your own Little Princess with her own Castle or for your grown up Princess! All you need to do is change the colors; try pinks and lilacs for the little darlings, try reds and oranges for a more grown up look, and go with purples, dark blues and blacks for that gothic look. Change the backing paper, take out the poinsettia and holly die-cuts and replace with some pretty flowers and flourishes. Perhaps you would prefer the card to be smaller? Just scale it down. Keep the mirror and the reflection in the die-cut and leave out the Polar Bear and the Snow Castle.

There are so many ways to use this striking collection. Enjoy!

You Will Need:

Step 1:

Cut, score and fold white cardstock to create a 20cm card.

Step 2:

Cut a 19.5cm square from silver mirror cardstock and mat onto the card.

Step 3:

Cut a 19cm square from complementary backing paper and mat onto the card.

Step 4:

Using the Flectere Winter Scene Treeline die, cut two from white cardstock and color with the pens. Cut a 19cm x 9cm rectangle and tear across to create a snowy layer. Mat onto the bottom half of the card and tuck and stick the treeline die-cut into the snowy layer. Trim.

Step 5:

Using the Winter Bride die, Snow Castle die and Magnificent Polar Bear die, cut one each from white cardstock. Trim away the mirror and reflection from the Winter Bride. Using the Poinsettia die set, cut one each from the small, medium and large flowers. Using the Holly Branch die, cut two from white cardstock.

Step 6:

Color the Winter Bride, Snow Castle and the Magnificent Polar Bear. Cut a 12cm x 4.5m rectangle and tear to create a snowy layer and mat onto the bottom left corner with foam pads. Tuck and stick the Winter Bride behind the snowy layer. Mat the Snow Castle onto the card with foam pads. Mat the Magnificent Polar Bear onto the card, as shown, with double width foam pads. Offset, layer and mat the flowers together and mat onto the top left corner. Tuck and stick the Holly Branches underneath the Poinsettia and finish with stamens.
